Pello Bilbao Leads Team Bahrain Victorious in the 63rd Itzulia Basque Country
The 63rd edition of the Itzulia Basque Country is set to take place from 1st – 6th of April, covering a total of 833.6 kilometres over six stages between Irun and Eibar. Pello Bilbao will be leading Team Bahrain Victorious alongside his teammates on the challenging home roads of Basque Country.
The race will kick off in Irun with a 10km Individual Time Trial (ITT) before the riders tackle various stages with different terrains and climbs. Sports director Neil Stephens highlighted the team’s preparations and ambitions for the race, stating: “The team is doing a great job in preparations for ITT. We have high hopes for a race leader, Pello Bilbao on Monday and the whole of Itzulia.”
Bilbao expressed his excitement to compete at home, emphasizing the significance of the Itzulia Basque Country in his calendar: “This year maybe even more because the strongest riders will be here. To race at home in the known territory on my roads against these big names is such a big motivation.”
With a mix of stages featuring climbs and time bonuses up for grabs, the final stage of the race is expected to be intense and unpredictable. Stephens outlined the team’s strategy for the race, aiming for stage wins and protecting their GC riders throughout the stages.
As the competition unfolds, Bilbao and his teammates are geared up to face the challenges and strive for success in the prestigious Itzulia Basque Country.
