Marianne Vos Secures Victory in Dwars door Vlaanderen to Expand Impressive Palmares
The latest edition of Dwars door Vlaanderen saw a dramatic turn of events as the race was momentarily halted due to an accident on the course. After the race resumed following a short interruption, Dutch cyclist Fem van Empel displayed her attacking prowess, causing a split in the peloton with an impressive move on the Ladeuze section.
Describing her strategy during the race, Vos mentioned that she didn’t let the unexpected events throw her off course. She stated, “Of course, it takes some adjusting when the race is neutralized, but as a rider you undergo that and wait to see what decisions are made.” Vos further elaborated on the dynamic nature of the race, highlighting the formation of a new breakaway group soon after the restart.
In a decisive move, Vos and Shirin van Anrooij pulled away from the breakaway riders and cooperated effectively to stay ahead of the chasing group. Vos recounted the sprint finish, stating, “In the sprint I tried to catch [Van Anrooij] and then it’s sprinting with everything you have left. Luckily it worked out well.”
Securing the victory in Dwars door Vlaanderen not only filled a missing gap in Vos’ collection of wins but also marked a significant milestone in her career. Reflecting on her 250th road victory, Vos expressed her disbelief, saying, “It’s a number you don’t dare think about at the beginning of your career.”
This triumph adds to Vos’ impressive list of achievements, with the seasoned cyclist emphasizing the significance of her back-to-back victories, including the recent win at Omloop het Nieuwsblad. Vos acknowledged the unexpected success she has experienced early in the season, stating, “At the beginning of spring, I didn’t dare dream that I would start my season like this.”
With each victory, Marianne Vos continues to solidify her reputation as one of the most accomplished cyclists in the women’s professional peloton, showcasing her tenacity and skill on the road.
