Clément Champoussin: “A first for me”.
“I’ve competed in every edition of Milan San-Remo since I turned professional, with the exception of my first season at this level. This is the first monument of the year. This competition demands both patience and endurance, and a fair amount of explosiveness, too. I still believe in it, even if it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a massive sprint on the Via Roma. For me, Milan San-Remo remains an unpredictable race, where any scenario is possible. You always have to be on your guard, and know how to seize the opportunities that come your way. It’s important to go into this classic with the idea in mind that you can have a good day, depending on the right circumstances that will arise over the long kilometers of the race, and above all that it’s possible to achieve a good result on a day when anything can happen. I was successful in Milan-San-Remo, with two podiums and several top-ten finishes. It’s a monument that suits me well because it demands endurance, so it’s perfectly suited to my physical characteristics.
