One of the young cyclists, Itai, who was injured and lost his eye in the ambush, expressed his optimism and desire to return to cycling as he pedaled with surprising confidence. Quoting Erez Cohen, the father of Itai, “I have a strong and optimistic child… It was great to get back to riding. I missed it.”
The veteran coach of the young riders, Judith Bdolach, noted the symbolic significance of the riders returning to the Velodrome, stating, “To see ‘my kids’ back on bikes here in the Velodrome alongside Israel’s national team riders gives me real hope that we have begun the journey back to life.”
