Team Jayco AlUla Welcomes Former Professional Cyclist Valerio Piva as Sport Director
Team Jayco AlUla is thrilled to announce the addition of Valerio Piva, a former professional cyclist, as a sport director for the 2024 season. The Italian brings a wealth of experience from his successful career and is set to enhance the squad further.
Brent Copeland, Team Jayco AlUla General Manager, expressed his excitement, stating, “It is always special to have a former rider join the team in a Sport Director role. Their understanding for the sport is invaluable and for somebody like Valerio, he has that experience and has built up a lot of knowledge having worked as a Sport Director now for so many years.”
In joining the team, Piva revealed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m very happy to join Team Jayco AlUla – one of the most prestigious teams in the WorldTour! My goal is to contribute to making the team grow even further both in terms of victories and to return to the top of the world rankings.”
Piva, born in Northern Italy in 1958, enjoyed a successful 10-year professional road cycling career during the 80’s before transitioning to a Sport Director role. He has worked with various teams and champions, including Mark Cavendish and Greg Van Avermaet, and is poised to bring his expertise to Team Jayco AlUla.
His extensive background and plans to elevate the team’s performance make his addition a significant development for the squad as they gear up for the upcoming season.
