Alexey Lutsenko Clinches Victory at Tour of Turkey
Kazakh cyclist Alexey Lutsenko of the Astana Qazaqstan Team emerged as the winner of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey, securing the final General Classification of the race. Lutsenko, who took the leader jersey on Stage 3, successfully defended his position over the next five days and triumphed in the historic city center of Istanbul.
Lutsenko expressed his joy and gratitude for his team’s support, stating, “I am super happy with this win! It was not easy to protect the jersey during almost the whole week, but I had a great team next to me and with these guys everything became possible.”
Alexandr Vinokurov, General Manager of Astana Qazaqstan Team, praised Lutsenko’s performance and highlighted the importance of the victory in terms of Olympic ranking. He said, “This win Kazakhstan got important points in the Olympic ranking, taking two out of four licenses for the Olympic Games in Paris. This is a very important point for us, and we are happy with it.”
In addition to Lutsenko’s victory, Harold Tejada held onto his third place position and secured his first ever podium finish as a professional rider.
The Tour of Turkey concluded with a sprint stage in Istanbul where Astana’s Cees Bol finished second, marking his fourth podium finish in this edition of the race.
This victory serves as a successful end to the season for the Astana Qazaqstan Team and highlights Lutsenko’s exceptional form following the Asian Games.
