Team Jayco AlUla Women Gear Up for Final Races in China Led by Baker & Gaskjenn
Team Jayco AlUla’s women’s cycling team is preparing to head to China for the last races of the 2023 season. The team will participate in two races, the Tour of Chongming Island from October 12th to 14th and the Tour of Guangxi on October 17th. Georgia Baker and Ingvild Gaskjenn will lead the team in these races.
Baker, a powerful sprinter, will lead the squad in the Tour of Chongming Island, a predominantly flat race that could come down to a race for intermediate bonus sprint seconds. On the other hand, Gaskjenn, a Norwegian rider, will have her chance to shine in the Tour of Guangxi, a one-day WorldTour race with climbs in the finale.
In addition to Baker and Gaskjenn, the team will be supported by experienced Dutch rider Nina Kessler, Singaporean rider Chelsie Tan, and Australian rider Jess Allen. Unfortunately, Allen will be ending her professional career after the Tour of Guangxi, making this race a significant milestone for her. Tan will also be making her final appearance for GreenEDGE Cycling at the event.
Team Jayco AlUla is determined to finish the challenging 2023 season on a high note with five race victories up for grabs. Jess Allen expressed her excitement about finishing her career in China and the team’s motivation to succeed in the unique races.
Team Director Martin Vestby discussed the team’s strategy for both races. For the Tour of Chongming, Baker will be the leader for potential bunch sprints, and the team is confident in her form and training. For the hilly race of Guangxi, the team will change their plan and give Gaskjenn the opportunity to showcase her climbing skills.
Despite the long season, the team is determined to make the most of their final trip and end the season on a strong note.
