Team Jumbo-Visma Women Miss Out on Podium in Second Stage of Tour de Romandie Féminin
Team Jumbo-Visma Women faced disappointment in the second stage of the Tour de Romandie Féminin as they were unable to secure a podium position. The stage, which featured two first-category climbs from Romont to Torgon, saw a breakaway take a long time to form. Despite a strong effort by Amber Kraak and two other riders, the peloton caught up with them quickly on the final climb.
Kraak, reflecting on her performance, shared, “I tried to attack today. Unfortunately, the headwind cost me a lot of energy, and I felt empty. Tomorrow, I will try to attack again and make it a good day with the other riders.”
Race director Lieselot Decroix commented on the team’s strategy, saying, “The plan today was to anticipate the early breakaway. Rosita (Reijnhout) and Eva (Van Agt) were very active in the first hour of the race. Unfortunately, none of the breakaways proved effective. We tried to stick to our plan as best we could. In the final, we had a lot of riders in the breakaway, but unfortunately, we came up short on the tough final climb.”
Looking ahead to the final stage of the Tour de Romandie Féminin, Decroix added, “Tomorrow is the third and final stage of the race. With four categorized climbs, there are still plenty of opportunities for Team Jumbo-Visma.”
It remains to be seen if Team Jumbo-Visma Women can bounce back and secure a podium finish in the remaining stages of the Tour de Romandie Féminin. Despite the challenges faced in the second stage, the team will continue to push forward and make the most of the upcoming opportunities to showcase their strength and determination on the road.
