British Talent Lukas Nerurkar Joins EF Education-EasyPost WorldTour Team

Nineteen-year-old Lukas Nerurkar, a rising star in British cycling, is set to make his WorldTour debut with the EF Education-EasyPost team next year. Despite growing up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where his father Richard Nerurkar was a renowned Olympic marathon and 10,000-meter runner, Lukas fell in love with cycling and knew it was the sport for him. Reflecting on his early days, Lukas recalls, “In Ethiopia, it is unusual to do cycling. Almost everyone takes up running instead, but on the bike, I could just go a bit farther and faster.”

Lukas’s cycling journey began when his family moved back to England, and he started racing with the Preston Park Cycling Club in Brighton. After impressing with his talent as a youth rider, he joined VC Londres in London and was later introduced to Trinity, a British Continental team, where his skills continued to develop. Over the past two seasons, Lukas has proved himself on the under-23 circuit, culminating in a sixth-place finish on the general classification at Spain’s O Gran Camiño.

EF Education-EasyPost CEO Jonathan Vaughters expressed his optimism about Lukas’s potential, stating, “He has proven that he is quite punchy and quick, with a good finish. He is tactically astute…I do know that he can go uphill and knows how to smell a finish line.” Lukas himself sees his strengths lying in punchy climbing and sprinting from a reduced group at the end of hard races.

Looking ahead to his first year with the WorldTour team, Lukas is focused on gaining experience and learning from his teammates. He is excited about the aggressive style of racing that EF Education-EasyPost embraces and is eager to start racing with them. “It would be nice to win some races,” Lukas says, “but…the next few years will just be about finding out what kind of rider I am and improving in those areas, so I can really perform in races.”

With his determination and potential, Lukas Nerurkar is undoubtedly a valuable addition to the EF Education-EasyPost team as they continue to compete at the highest level of professional cycling.
