Lars Boven Surprises with Fourth Place Finish in Super 8 Classic

Lars Boven, a U23 rider and part of the Jumbo-Visma Development Team, exceeded expectations with a strong fourth-place finish in the Super 8 Classic. The race spanned over 200 kilometres in the Druivenstreek region, featuring challenging obstacles known from the 2021 World Championships. Boven showcased his potential in this area, showcasing his tenacity throughout the race.

Boven made a valiant attempt to chase down World Champion Mathieu van der Poel and Victor Campenaerts, but unfortunately, his efforts were unsuccessful. However, he later caught up with Florian Vermeersch and joined the five leaders of the stage.

Despite exhaustion in the final stretch, Boven remained determined. He pushed himself to make a move three kilometres before the finish line but was hindered by cramps. He settled for a sprint, where he lacked the energy to secure third place but was nonetheless satisfied with his fourth-place achievement.

Boven’s performance in the breakaway, which included renowned riders such as Van der Poel, Vermeersch, Fuglsang, Turgis, and Van den Broek, was a surprise to many. Reflecting on the race, Boven expressed his awareness of his good form and how he recognized the caliber of the riders he was competing against. Despite the intensity of the race, Boven considers it an exceptional day for him.

With his impressive performance in the Super 8 Classic, Boven has demonstrated his potential and positioned himself as a rising star in the world of cycling.
