Mohorič Finishes 5th at Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec

In an impressive display of sprinting, Matej Mohorič secured 5th place at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec. The race was won by young Belgian rider Arnaud De Lie of Lotto Dstny. The thrilling event consisted of 16 laps around a 12.6km circuit in Québec City, with challenging altitudes totaling nearly 3,000m.

The race’s intense nature left limited opportunities for breakaways, resulting in a final showdown during the last kilometers of the last lap. AG2R’s Cosnefroy made the initial move, but was quickly reeled in. It was EF Education’s Powless who made the next move, only for the peloton to regroup in the final few hundred meters for an uphill sprint to the finish line.

Mohorič was part of the select group fighting for the sprint victory and managed to come from behind to claim 5th place. Reflecting on his performance, Mohorič said, “Today, the goal was to wait for the final sprint because we thought it would be the best chance to get a result here.” He expressed satisfaction with his team’s support and credited Pello for positioning him well in the crucial corner before the last steep climb.

While he admitted to feeling fatigued from a long and successful season, Mohorič expressed pride in his 5th place finish. Looking ahead to future races, he said, “Today was a good result, and we hope for another good run on Sunday.”
