Matthews & Manly Lead Team Jayco AlUla in GP de Plouay

Team Jayco AlUla has announced that Australian riders Alex Manly and Michael Matthews will lead the team in the upcoming GP de Plouay races in France. The one-day WorldTour men’s and women’s races, held on September 2nd and 3rd, respectively, are expected to provide a challenging and aggressive race.

In the women’s event, the 22nd edition of the race, the team aims to race aggressively and create a natural selection among the riders. Alex Manly, who is returning to racing after the World Championships in Glasgow, expressed her excitement about racing with the team in Plouay. She said, “I have always enjoyed the race in the past, and would love for the team to have a good day.”

On the strategy for the race, Sport Director Megan Chard explained, “We want to really race aggressively in this race, it’s known to be quite hectic. We have a lot of options with this type of race, and we look to really try and jump at every opportunity that comes our way.”

As for the men’s event, the 87th edition of the Bretagne Classic Ouest-France, Michael Matthews will be the team’s protected leader. Matthews, who previously won the race in 2020, stated, “I am feeling good and ready to return to racing after the World Championship in Glasgow. The course is one that I really like, and I think I have good condition and a team that will be able to support me in trying to win again.”

Andrew Smith, the Sport Director, expressed confidence in Matthews’ abilities and the team’s strength. He said, “Michael is a previous winner of the Bretagne Classic and we know he always has a chance of a result when he lines up. We have a strong team with some very experienced riders here to support him.”

Both Matthews and Manly will have their sights set on success as Team Jayco AlUla takes on the challenging races in Plouay.
