Remco Evenepoel Overcomes Difficult Night to Secure Second Stage Win

“I can be very proud,” says Evenepoel

After a challenging night filled with negative thoughts, Remco Evenepoel bounced back with determination and secured his second stage win in the race. Despite a restless sleep, Evenepoel woke up with a renewed mindset, telling himself to seize the day.

Having done a reconnaissance of the stage beforehand, Evenepoel was well-prepared for the demanding climbs that lay ahead. Describing it as a “really tough stage,” the cyclist reveled in the satisfaction of emerging victorious once again.

The race started off at an intense pace, but Evenepoel found himself in a favorable position. Eventually, he joined forces with Mattia Cattaneo, who set a strong pace on the first climb. It was on this climb that Juanpe Lopez launched an attack, prompting Evenepoel to counter and pull ahead with Romain Bardet.

Together, the trio worked cohesively, increasing their lead on the descent. Evenepoel made an agreement with Bardet, pledging to maintain the pace on the climbs as long as Bardet collaborated on the flat sections. This strategy proved successful, and Evenepoel expressed his pride in his performance, especially after the difficulty of the previous day.

With the mountain jersey and multiple stage wins under his belt, Evenepoel is setting his sights on the ultimate goal of reaching Madrid. Reflecting on his accomplishments, he noted, “I think that’s some nice goals towards Madrid.”
