Julian Alaphilippe showcases powerful sprint for top 10 finish in Quebec
Julian Alaphilippe, of the Soudal Quick-Step team, secured his first top ten finish of the season in the Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec. Despite a challenging uphill drag to the finish line, Alaphilippe impressed with his powerful sprint on Montée du Fort. He came from behind but managed to secure a ninth-place finish in the 201.6km race.
Alaphilippe’s teammate, Mauri Vansevenant, also played a crucial role in the race by attacking early on and forming a breakaway group with three other riders. They managed to open up a four-minute lead, which came to an end in the final 40 kilometers of the race. Unfortunately, a crash in the feed zone affected Alaphilippe’s teammate Ilan Van Wilder, who had to expend a significant amount of energy to catch up with the peloton.
Despite the challenges, Alaphilippe spoke positively about the team’s efforts and his own performance. He stated, “The team worked hard to be well-placed in the key moments of the race, and I gave my maximum in the sprint, but it was difficult to do more against the really fast men of the peloton. Top ten here is a good result ahead of Sunday, when the race should be harder.”
This strong finish in Quebec sets the stage for Alaphilippe and the Soudal Quick-Step team as they continue to compete in upcoming races.
