Neilson Powless Sets Sights on Victory at Maryland Cycling Classic

America’s top finisher in the recent professional World Championships road race, Neilson Powless, is determined to prove his podium finish was no fluke as he prepares for the Maryland Cycling Classic. Powless, a member of Team EF-Education Easypost, is currently the best professional cyclist in the country and is ranked in the Top 20 this late in the season, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished in the past five years. With his exceptional climbing abilities, Powless is ready to take on the challenging course of the Maryland race.

Reflecting on his experience at last year’s event, where he finished just behind the winner, Powless expressed his excitement to return. “It was an incredible event. Huge crowds, really challenging but fun course. The organization and publicity was awesome. I can’t wait to come back and race next year,” he said.

This year’s Maryland Cycling Classic presents an opportunity for Powless and his strong EF Education-Easypost team to shine. As Powless prepares to compete, he also looks forward to returning to his home country and indulging in the food he misses while in Europe. Powless comes from a family of athletes, and his success in the Tour de France, where he wore the polka-dot jersey for the King of the Mountains, further emphasizes his strong performance.

After a successful year of racing internationally, Powless finds extra motivation at the Maryland Cycling Classic. With his wife expecting their first child and the race falling on his birthday, a victory would be the perfect birthday present for the determined cyclist.

The Maryland Cycling Classic presented by UnitedHealthcare, taking place on September 3rd, is America’s top one-day international pro cycling race. It features world-class cyclists from over 20 countries and is part of a larger wellness celebration.
