Maryland Cycling Classic announces preliminary riders for second edition, including Tour de France notables

Some of the biggest stars from this year’s Tour de France and recent World Championships were announced today in the preliminary rosters for the second edition of the Maryland Cycling Classic, presented by UnitedHealthcare. The race, which covers a distance of 121.9 miles (196km) from Sparks, Md., to Baltimore’s famous Inner Harbor, will take place on September 3rd.

The preliminary rider list includes Tour de France stage winners Michael Woods, Victor Lafay, KOM Champion Giulio Ciccone, top American Neilson Powless, and fourth place finisher Simon Yates. Powless expressed his excitement about the race, saying, “Being able to race around downtown in a major city like Baltimore was fun. So, I’m really looking forward to being back to compete in America’s biggest race again.”

In addition to these riders, the race will feature a strong field of 112 of the world’s top cyclists representing 16 elite teams. Notable riders to watch for include former Tour de France stage winner Simon Clarke, Denmark’s Mattias Skjelmose, and rising star Yevgeniy Fedorov.

Race event manager Chris Aronhalt commented on the impressive field of riders, saying, “This is going to be one of the most exciting fields to watch on American soil since 2019.”

The Maryland Cycling Classic, presented by UnitedHealthcare, is America’s top one-day international pro cycling race sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and USA Cycling. The race is part of a four-day weekend community celebration of health and wellness, featuring participatory events, an interactive festival, local food and drinks, and other family-friendly activities.
