Vuelta a España Stage 7: Geoffrey Soupe Takes the Win in Valencia
The peloton gathered in Utiel on Friday for the start of the seventh stage of the Vuelta a España, embarking on a 200.8km journey to Oliva along the scenic Mediterranean coast. The stage provided a chance for riders to recover from the challenging mountain stages and for sprinters to shine before a tough weekend.
Despite the efforts of two breakaway riders, their lead never exceeded two minutes. As the breakaway entered Valencia, their advantage neared one minute and slowly diminished. Eventually, the peloton regrouped before the intermediate sprint.
With ten kilometers to go, teams began to jostle for position which caused two separate crashes, luckily avoided by the Soudal Quick-Step team. A corner 300 meters from the finish added excitement, but it couldn’t prevent a mass sprint. Geoffrey Soupe of TotalEnergies emerged victorious.
Soudal Quick-Step’s Remco Evenepoel, wearing the Belgian National Champion jersey, finished safely in the peloton and maintained his strong position heading into the challenging Xorret de Cati stage.
