INEOS Grenadiers, the renowned cycling team, has announced a partnership with NeuroFlex, a cutting-edge technology that aims to enhance athlete brain health. NeuroFlex utilizes a combination of a laptop, virtual reality goggles, and the NeuroFlex software to conduct quick and accurate concussion tests.
Dr. David Stevens, Head of Medical and Research – Asia Pacific at NeuroFlex, highlighted the significance of the technology, stating, “NeuroFlex provides objective information that guides effective treatments which involve the vestibular system, vision, and the neck.” The software is capable of analyzing data and generating quantitative reports, eliminating guesswork in diagnosing concussions.
In addition to concussion management, NeuroFlex has the potential to be used as a performance tool. It can track the effects of factors such as long-haul travel, altitude, heat on riders, and monitor neurological recovery from illness. Baseline testing using the NeuroFlex platform will be conducted at the start of the season, and subsequent tests will be compared to baseline data after specific events like long-haul flights or days of excessive heat.
Dr. Santos, a representative of INEOS Grenadiers, expressed the team’s commitment to athlete health and well-being, stating, “At INEOS Grenadiers, athlete and staff health and well-being are central to our culture, so we’re delighted to be able to elevate that level of care through our partnership with NeuroFlex.”
NeuroFlex Executive Director, Grenville Thynne, expressed the honor of being chosen as INEOS Grenadiers’ technological partner, emphasizing the alignment between the two organizations’ commitment to athlete health and well-being.
NeuroFlex has already been successfully trialed in various sports, including Australian Rules Football, Super Rugby Union Competition, FIFA Men’s World Cup, and British Horse Racing. It is also being implemented by organizations such as the South Sydney Juniors, North Adelaide Football Club, The Dolphins (NRL), and Leicester City Football Club (EPL).
By partnering with NeuroFlex, the INEOS Grenadiers aim to prioritize the brain health of their athletes and further elevate their standards of care.
