Scott McGill Returns Home to Compete in the Maryland Cycling Classic

Scott McGill, a professional cyclist and Maryland native, is set to race in the upcoming Maryland Cycling Classic (MCC) in Baltimore. McGill, who recently made the jump to Europe to race full-time, spoke about his excitement to race on his home roads and in front of his family and friends. He said, “A lot of people that I hadn’t talked to in the last couple of years reached out and were able to see the race.”

McGill had a successful 2022 season before making the move to Europe, notching victories in several races. However, he faced injuries and bad luck upon his arrival in Spain, which sidelined him for the first half of the year. Despite the setbacks, McGill is eager to race in the Maryland Cycling Classic as part of the Human Powered Health Cycling team.

Speaking about the course, McGill said, “The upper part is super nice, but because the finish has to be in Baltimore, it makes it harder to have a more challenging finishing circuit.” He added, “Last year, it ended up breaking the race up which surprised a lot of people. Maybe this year people will be expecting that, so it may go the other way and end with a big field sprint. We’ll have to wait and see.”

The Maryland Cycling Classic presented by UnitedHealthcare is America’s top one-day international pro cycling race, featuring top cyclists from around the world. The event is part of a four-day weekend community celebration of health and wellness. The race will take place on September 3, 2023, in Baltimore.
