Marc Sarreau Makes History with Third Consecutive Victory at Tour Poitou-Charentes

Marc Sarreau at Poitou-Charentes

Marc Sarreau has accomplished an extraordinary feat by securing his third consecutive victory at the Tour Poitou-Charentes. This achievement is particularly special for Sarreau as he expressed, “Confidence is total. It’s the first time in my professional career that I’ve won three races in a row. It’s enormously satisfying, even though the indicators weren’t necessarily in the green when I arrived. I’m surrounded by a great team, on courses that suit me, and as the victories come and go, the confidence is total.”

Reflecting on his performance in the time trial, Sarreau added, “In the afternoon, in the time trial, I gave it my all until halfway through the race. When I saw I was losing time, I eased off to save myself for tomorrow. Then I had a puncture, so there are no regrets about having lost the leader’s jersey. Tomorrow, there’s still a good card to play.”

The number

With this victory, Sarreau has achieved the 10th success of the season for the AG2R CITROËN team and his fourth win of the year.

Ben O’Connor Shines at Vuelta a Espana

Meanwhile, in the sixth stage of the Vuelta a Espana, Ben O’Connor put on a solid performance, finishing in 15th place. This result allowed him to climb 19 places in the overall classification and secure the 15th spot. Despite facing difficulties, O’Connor commented, “I didn’t have the best legs but, above all, I had a puncture before the final climb and that upset me. I lost a lot of energy and that’s why I had to hang on at the end. I finished with the favourites, so all’s well. I hope to feel better in the next few days.”

Julien Jurdie, the sports director, acknowledged the challenging conditions and praised O’Connor’s determination, stating, “It was another crazy day in difficult weather conditions. Ben had a puncture at the worst possible moment, and made a huge effort to come back. We limited the damage. It’s satisfying in terms of results, even if the collective didn’t perform well enough today.”

In other news, Lawrence Naesen finished 9th in the first stage of the Tour of Germany, while Aurélien Paret-Peintre secured the 10th spot in the time trial at the Tour Poitou-Charentes.
