Sylvain Moniquet Surprises Himself with Strong Performance at Tour de Pologne
Despite not claiming a stage victory, Lotto Soudal had an impressive Tour de Pologne, with multiple breakaways and Jarrad Drizners winning the KOM jersey. Pro cyclist Sylvain Moniquet exceeded expectations, finishing in 11th place overall and surprising himself with his performance in the time trial.
Jarrad Drizners expressed his satisfaction with his return to racing, stating, “I didn’t have much expectations but if I already had some, they definitely were exceeded this week.” Drizners went on to secure the KOM jersey, dedicating his achievement to the late Bjorg.
Sylvain Moniquet highlighted the importance of the time trial in determining the general classification of the race. He said, “It wasn’t a very selective Tour de Pologne so it would mostly come down to the time trial, which I’ve prepared really well.” Moniquet surprised himself with his performance in the time trial, expressing his happiness with the result. Although he narrowly missed the top ten overall, he remains optimistic for future races.
The team’s efforts and the KOM jersey for Drizners were a source of satisfaction for Moniquet, who stated, “With the team going on the attack on several stages and the KOM jersey for Jarrad at the end, we can be happy.” Moniquet’s strong performance at the Tour de Pologne bodes well for his upcoming races, including the Tour de l’Ain and Deutschland Tour.
