Lotto Dstny Aims for Strong Collective Performance at Belgian Opening Weekend
The Belgian opening weekend is finally here, and Lotto Dstny is ready to make their mark. In the upcoming spring Classics’ openers, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, the team will be looking to showcase their collective strength on the hills and cobbles.
Victor Campenaerts and Arnaud De Lie have been identified as the key riders for the team. De Lie, who will be participating in his first ever full opening weekend, is focused on gaining valuable experience. Campenaerts, on the other hand, is aiming to improve on his fifth-place finish from last year’s Omloop.
Campenaerts expressed his eagerness for the Belgian races, saying, “For the rest of the ’22 spring Classics but also for the start of this new campaign. That is why I want to do better than a fifth place in the Omloop this year. But of course, I’m not alone, we have a strong team that sticks together really well. We want to play a prominent role in the race and need to make use of our collective strength.”
Meanwhile, De Lie is realistic about his chances but is determined to race well. He said, “There are many other strong teams at the start, that aren’t talked about a lot. The most important thing is for me to gather as much experience as possible, but it is also clear that I need to take the opportunities if they arise.”
Both riders will be relying on their team’s support and staying attentive to the race dynamics. De Lie mentioned his strong sprint as an additional weapon, but also noted that counting on a sprint in cobbled Classics may not always be the best tactic. He added, “I will of course also look to join interesting moves. Which is also the case for my Lotto Dstny teammates.”
The Lotto Dstny team is excited and ready to make an impact in the Belgian opening weekend. With a strong collective performance, they aim to leave their mark on the spring Classics’ start.
