Caleb Ewan Places Second in Sprint Finish at GP Monseré
In a closely contested sprint, Caleb Ewan secured second place at the GP Monseré, the second race of the Lotto Cycling Cup. With strong teamwork from Lotto Dstny, Ewan was positioned perfectly for the final straight. He launched a powerful attack, appearing poised for victory, but narrowly missed out at the finish line to Gerben Thijssen. Sam Welsford rounded out the podium in Roeselare.
Ewan initially believed he had taken the win, but had to settle for second place after a photo finish. Despite the disappointment, Ewan remains optimistic about his chances:
“Of course, it’s never nice to lose on a photo finish. This is disappointing but we keep on working to get that victory. I’ve been close a couple of times this season and I’m sure that the win is coming soon,” reacts Caleb Ewan.
In the 200-kilometer GP Monseré, the outcome was determined in the final local lap. Lotto Dstny provided strong protection for Ewan, and the peloton split during the technical final with several short cobbled climbs. However, the race came back together for a bunch sprint.
Ewan expressed his gratitude for his team’s efforts, saying:
“I had a really strong team with me today and they did great to keep me out of the danger zone and the wind. Also when the bunch split for a moment, we were always attentive. The guys rode a strong final and dropped me off perfectly towards the line. Unfortunately, I could not reward them with the win but this team work gives us confidence towards the next races, beginning with Milan-Sanremo.”
Heading into future races, Ewan and the Lotto Dstny team remain hopeful and eager for victory.
