Lotto Dstny Riders Andreas Kron and Maxim Van Gils Finish Strong in Amstel Gold Race
Lotto Dstny riders Andreas Kron and Maxim Van Gils put on an impressive performance in the Amstel Gold Race, finishing in fourth and seventh place respectively. The race started early and remained intense until the finish in Berg en Terblijt.
A decisive moment occurred at around 100 kilometers from the finish when a strong group broke away from the bunch. Kron and teammate Arjen Livyns were part of this breakaway and worked diligently together. Despite attempts from the bunch to catch up, the front group held their lead.
During the race, Tadej Pogacar launched an attack on the Eyserbosweg, leaving Kron unable to keep up. However, Kron maintained his determination and continued to pursue the leaders alongside Alexey Lutsenko. Ultimately, Pogacar claimed victory, while Kron narrowly missed the podium and finished in fourth place. Shortly after, Van Gils sprinted to seventh place, securing another top-ten position for the Lotto Dstny team.
Kron expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, despite narrowly missing the podium. He acknowledged Pidcock’s strong finish and reflected on the race, saying, “To be honest, I didn’t feel great anymore in the final, and due to maybe a moment of hesitation, we could just not catch Pidcock.”
Van Gils also had a strong race, gaining momentum as the day progressed. He commented, “With Andreas Kron at the front, we were in a good situation, but that way I could maybe not empty myself completely. Maybe an even better result was possible, personally, but a fourth and seventh place in Amstel is a really nice performance for Lotto Dstny.”
The team is now looking forward to the next Ardennes Classics with confidence after their strong showing in Amstel Gold Race.
