Sprinter Caleb Ewan has signed a two-year extension with ProTeam, ensuring his stay with the team until at least the end of 2024. With 22 victories under his belt, including wins at the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and other prestigious races, Ewan is excited about the future with the team.
Speaking about his decision to extend his contract, Ewan said, “I feel very much at home at Lotto Soudal, it is a team I am proud to represent and together we have achieved some wonderful results…I believe we have much improvement within us and I am really looking forward to working with our sprint train.”
ProTeam has also secured the services of Frederik Frison and Rüdiger Selig for the coming years. Frison has extended his contract until the end of 2023, while Selig, who has previously worked with top sprinters, is excited to support Ewan as his lead-out man. Selig commented, “In my opinion, Caleb Ewan is the fastest sprinter in the world, so I am really happy that both the team and Caleb believe in me.”
Looking ahead, ProTeam’s General Manager John Lelangue expressed optimism about the team’s future, stating, “Top-level sport is about winning and losing, with peaks and troughs, but in my opinion, our future really does look bright. We continue to build the future and invest in youth.”
In terms of team structure, Lelangue mentioned that veteran rider Philippe Gilbert plays an important mentorship role within the team, and he himself will remain at the head of the team with other experienced individuals in key roles. The team will bid farewell to Herman Frison and Marc Sergeant at the end of 2021, both of whom have been instrumental figures in the team’s success.
ProTeam is expected to announce more news regarding new riders and contract extensions in the coming weeks.
