Mike Woods Set for Success at Challenging Liège – Bastogne – Liège
Canadian cyclist Mike Woods is looking to continue his successful track record at Liège – Bastogne – Liège, aiming to build on his previous top-ten finishes and second-place result in 2018. Despite facing a difficult course change and formidable contenders, Woods remains confident in his abilities.
The upcoming edition of Liège – Bastogne – Liège is expected to be the toughest yet, with a course alteration that will heighten the challenges faced by riders. Woods explains, “Having that right turn after La Redoute will make the race harder… I think it will make La Redoute that much more important this year. I don’t think the race will be won on that climb… but certainly, the race-winning selection will come from there.”
Furthermore, unfavorable weather conditions are anticipated, adding to the complexity of the race. Woods, reflecting on his performance at La Flèche Wallonne, believes he is in good form and expects to perform even better in Liège. He adds, “Apart from my DNF in 2016… I have never finished outside of the top-ten, so it gives me confidence knowing what I am capable of.” However, Woods acknowledges the strong competition he will face, particularly from Remco Evenepoel and Tadej Pogacar.
Despite the challenges ahead, Woods remains excited and hopeful for a successful race, stating, “I’m excited and hopefully I can be up there with the best.”
