Mike Woods Aims for Podium Finish at Tour de Romandie
After a strong performance at the Ardennes classics, Canadian cyclist Mike Woods is set to compete at the Tour de Romandie, hoping to replicate his success from last year. Woods finished 5th overall and won a stage in 2021, and he is eager to repeat that performance.
Woods has his eyes set on the fourth stage of the race, which has the same finish as the one he won last year. He expressed his determination, saying, “I want to be competing for the podium, or if not a top 5. I won on the stage which finishes in Thyon in 2021 which is essentially the same this year, so I’d like to repeat that performance.”
However, Woods acknowledged the challenges that come with participating in the Tour de Romandie, especially after completing the grueling Liege-Bastogne-Liege race. He recognized the mental aspect of the race, stating, “Romandie is always a tricky race, after Liege-Bastogne-Liege, mentally it’s quite challenging…Normally I’m quite binary at this race, I feel I’m either the best guy in the peloton or the worst, so obviously I’m hoping to be on the better end of the spectrum.”
The Tour de Romandie, which consists of six stages, will commence on May 25th with a prologue in Port Valais. Woods will be joined by notable riders such as Chris Froome, Giacomo Nizzolo, and Rick Zabel.
With his sights set on the podium, Mike Woods is determined to give his best performance at the Tour de Romandie, aiming to secure another victory on the challenging terrain.
