Israel – Premier Tech Faces Setback as Patrick Bevin Abandons Race, Tom van Asbroeck Finishes Fourth

Israel – Premier Tech faced a setback during the fourth stage of the race as team leader Patrick Bevin was forced to abandon due to illness. Despite feeling unwell, Bevin initially took the start, but his symptoms worsened, forcing him to step into the team car after an hour of racing.

The team had high hopes for Bevin, who had been their top finisher in the previous stage and had moved up significantly in the general classification. Their plan was to aim for a top 5 position in the GC and sprint with Bevin in the flat fourth stage. However, their plans had to change with Bevin’s abandonment.

With 170 km left to race, the team quickly adapted and assigned Tom van Asbroeck as the new sprinter. Despite the last-minute change, van Asbroeck performed well and finished fourth in a group of around forty riders.

Reflecting on his performance, van Asbroeck expressed some disappointment but also gratitude towards his teammates. He mentioned, “I had to brake hard in the final, lost some crucial speed, and then could not make it to the top 3 anymore. I cannot be disappointed with this result, as I didn’t sprint for a long time… My teammates talked confidence into me after Paddy had to abandon. I have to thank them for their trust and support. They were fabulous today.”
