Yevgeniy Fedorov Impresses at Il Piccolo Lombardia with Second Place Finish
The Under 23 World Champion Yevgeniy Fedorov showcased his talent once again at Il Piccolo Lombardia, finishing in second place after a remarkable race. Riding for the Astana Qazaqstan Development Team, Fedorov displayed his aggressive riding style throughout the day.
“I did my best in the sprint, but maybe I had to start a bit earlier. However, I gave all I had in the legs and finished second. I think I spent a nice day here at Il Piccolo Lombardia and I am happy that I got a chance to wear this rainbow jersey, it was a big pleasure and honor for me. I want to thank my teammates, all Astana Qazaqstan Development Team for a great support during the day. This support provided me a chance to reach the podium. I was motivated to get a good result today and to show the rainbow jersey in the best possible way. I was fighting until the very last meter but in sprint you never know… Well, in the final I tried to attack for a few times to go solo, but it did not work. However, I am on the podium, and I am pretty happy today,”
Fedorov, who recently won the U23 World Championship title, made the most of his opportunity to wear the rainbow jersey. The 22-year-old Kazakh rider was the most aggressive rider in the 94th edition of the race and secured a solid second place finish.
After many attacks in the second half of the race, Fedorov found himself in a leading group of five riders, including Harold Martin Lopez. The group opened a significant gap to the chasing pack.
Throughout the race, Fedorov remained active and made multiple attempts to break away from the leading group on the last two climbs of the day. However, the race ultimately ended in a sprint, with Alec Segaert taking the victory, followed by Fedorov and Jordan Labrosse.
The impressive performance by Fedorov was supported by the General Partner “Samruk-Kazyna” and the Sports Support Foundation “SportQory.”
