Astana Qazaqstan Team terminates contract with Michele Gazzoli following doping violation

Astana Qazaqstan Team has announced the termination of its contract with rider Michele Gazzoli after he received a 1-year period of ineligibility from the UCI due to a doping violation. The violation was the result of the presence of a prohibited substance, Tuaminoheptane, in Gazzoli’s A Sample collected during an in-competition doping control at the Volta ao Algarve em Bicicleta on February 17th.

Despite Gazzoli providing explanations on how the substance entered his body, the UCI classified the case as an unintentional violation of anti-doping rules. As a result, Gazzoli has been given a one-year ban and his results from the Volta ao Algarve em Bicicleta have been disqualified.

The team emphasized that they were not involved in Gazzoli’s violation and adhering to their zero tolerance policy, decided to terminate his contract immediately.
