Team Jumbo-Visma Targets Stage Wins at Renewi Tour with Olav Kooij
Team Jumbo-Visma is setting its sights on stage wins at the upcoming Renewi Tour with their young rider, Olav Kooij. Kooij has already claimed eight stage victories this season, and the team’s sports director, Arthur van Dongen, believes he has the potential to compete well in the overall classification as well.
Van Dongen highlights Kooij’s performance in the ZLM Tour, where he demonstrated his ability in multi-day stage races. While he acknowledges that the field in the Renewi Tour may be different, he has confidence in Kooij’s capabilities. Van Dongen states, “I wouldn’t be surprised if Olav can also fight for a good classification in the tougher stages. We will have to see how he feels, and if he is not in the best shape, we still have two good riders, Tobias and Mick, for the GC. But our priority is Olav.”
The Renewi Tour consists of two flat stages, two hilly stages, and an individual time trial. The stage from Aalter to Geraardsbergen is expected to be the toughest, featuring well-known climbs from the spring classics. Van Dongen predicts, “Both the third and fifth stages will be very tough. I expect an attractive and hard race on both days.”
Joining Kooij in Team Jumbo-Visma’s seven-man squad are Edoardo Affini, Tosh Van der Sande, Tobias Foss, Timo Roosen, Jos van Emden, and Mick van Dijke. The team aims to secure stage victories and potentially compete for the overall classification, making for an exciting and challenging Renewi Tour.
