Olav Kooij Finishes Sixteenth at Bemer Cyclassics Hamburg
Olav Kooij, a rider for Jumbo-Visma, finished in sixteenth place at the Bemer Cyclassics Hamburg. The race featured a local loop with the challenging Waseberg climb. Kooij showed his determination as he rejoined the chase after the climb, but unfortunately, he was unable to sprint for the win after a frantic chase and subsequent merge.
Sports director Robert Wagner commented on the team’s performance, saying, “Unfortunately, it was not a day for a top classification. We were unlucky towards the end.” Wagner mentioned that several riders retired due to punctures and crashes, leaving them short-handed to position Kooij properly after the Waseberg climb. However, he remained optimistic, stating, “Next year we will come back for a better classification.”
The race was won by Mads Pedersen from Lidl – Trek, with Danny van Poppel from BORA – hansgrohe in second place and Elia Viviani from INEOS Grenadiers in third place. Kooij finished in sixteenth place, with his teammate Tim van Dijke in thirty-ninth place.
Despite the challenges they faced in the race, Jumbo-Visma’s performance was seen as a valuable experience for their young riders. They will continue to strive for better results in future races.
