Roglic remains in control as Lazkano takes stage win in Vuelta a Burgos
On the penultimate stage of the Vuelta a Burgos, Oier Lazkano emerged as the fastest rider in the breakaway, securing a stage win. Despite the attackers’ efforts, Team Jumbo-Visma led the chase and ensured that the peloton remained in control.
Team Jumbo-Visma Sports Director, Addy Engels, explained the team strategy saying, “There were three guys in the breakaway who were quite high up in the general classification, so we had to control the gap to about four minutes. That’s what we did.”
Despite the challenging stage, Primoz Roglic retained the leader’s jersey in the general classification. Speaking about his team’s performance, Roglic praised their efforts saying, “Once again, I saw a strong team. The guys had everything under control.” Looking ahead to the final stage, Roglic expressed his determination to defend his lead, promising to give his all on the uphill finish.
According to Engels, the final climb to Lagunas de Neila is a familiar and tough one that requires strong legs. He expressed confidence in Roglic’s chances, stating, “At the moment, it looks good for Primoz.”
The stage win by Lazkano and Roglic’s continued dominance in the general classification set the stage for an exciting and challenging final stage of the Vuelta a Burgos.
