Zoe Bäckstedt Takes Fifth Place and Leads U23 Classification in Cyclo-Cross World Cup #1
Zoe Bäckstedt had an impressive start to the Cyclo-Cross World Cup season, finishing fifth overall and leading the U23 classification at the first round in Waterloo, USA. This strong performance comes after a series of victories and top placements in the opening races of the 2023/2024 season.
Prior to the World Cup, Zoe won both Major Taylor Cross Cups in Indianapolis and secured a second-place finish at the Trek CX Cup in Waterloo. The Cyclo-Cross World Cup consists of fourteen rounds throughout the season, and Zoe’s outstanding performance positions her as a leading contender in the U23 classification.
In the race, Zoe quickly settled into fourth place and remained in a tight battle for fifth. However, she managed to pull away in the final lap and crossed the finish line 2:22 minutes behind the winner, Fem van Empel, who is the current Cyclo-Cross World Champion. Zoe also finished 53 seconds ahead of the next U23 rider.
Reflecting on her performance, Zoe expressed her enthusiasm for the challenging course and the support from the crowds. She described the race as brutal but exciting, with technical sections and thick mud that posed obstacles for the riders. Despite these challenges, Zoe felt satisfied with her pacing and strategy throughout the race.
Zoe is thrilled with her start to the cross-season and is especially proud to take home the U23 leader jersey. As she prepares for the remaining rounds of the World Cup series, Zoe will return to Europe for upcoming races such as the Kiremko Nacht Van Woerden on October 24 and the Ruddervoorde Cyclo-cross on October 28. She looks forward to competing in the second round of the World Cup series in Maasmechelen.
With Zoe’s early success and her determination, she is poised to make a strong impact in the rest of the Cyclo-Cross World Cup season.
