Yves Lampaert Claims Podium Finish at Renewi Tour

Yves Lampaert, a Belgian cyclist, achieved his best result in a World Tour stage race after finishing third in the Renewi Tour. This makes Lampaert the fifth rider from his team to earn a spot on the overall podium of the competition. The race took place in his home country, just one week after a strong performance at the BEMER Cyclassics.

The final day of the race in Belgium was challenging, with a hilly course spanning 187.3km and a finishing circuit that riders deemed too dangerous. As a result, the race was stopped with over 80 kilometers remaining to protest against the circuit. After discussions with the organizers, it was decided that the time would be taken at the foot of the Keiberg, with five kilometers remaining, and no bonus seconds would be awarded.

Despite the circumstances, the Soudal Quick-Step team showed their determination on the last climb. Both Lampaert and Florian Sénéchal attempted to break away from the peloton. While Sénéchal’s efforts were eventually reeled in, the stage concluded in a small sprint won by Matej Mohoric. Meanwhile, the overall classification was won by Tim Wellens.

Reflecting on his third-place finish, Lampaert expressed his satisfaction and the confidence it gives him after a challenging Tour de France. He acknowledged the decision to neutralize the final kilometers, considering the narrow and potentially hazardous conditions. Lampaert praised his team’s efforts throughout the week-long race.

Overall, Lampaert’s podium finish at the Renewi Tour is a significant accomplishment and marks a moment of success for the Belgian cyclist.
