Nordhagen finishes UAE Tour in eighth place overall
# Jørgen Nordhagen Achieves Impressive Eighth Place Finish at UAE Tour
Jørgen Nordhagen capped off an exhilarating UAE Tour with a commendable eighth place overall, showcasing his burgeoning talent amidst a highly competitive field. “It’s amazing to start the season like this. At the decisive moments for the general classification, I was always there,” Nordhagen remarked, reflecting on his performance.
Despite uncertainty about his standing before the event, Nordhagen’s rigorous winter training without setbacks has clearly paid dividends. He affirmed, “That has paid off with my good form here.” During the final stage, the risk to his overall position was minimal, as sprinter teams concentrated on tracking down five attackers. Ultimately, Jonathan Milan sprinted to clinch his third stage victory for Lidl – Trek, while all Team Visma | Lease a Bike riders crossed the finish line securely behind him.
Sports director Maarten Wynants expressed satisfaction over the week’s achievements, stating, “That was also the only instruction we gave the riders today: get across the line safely, and we did that well.” Given a chance to shine in the absence of Jonas, Nordhagen seized the opportunity, earning praise for his performance. Wynants added, “To secure your second top ten finish in the general classification of a WorldTour race is impressive, especially with this field of competitors. This is the next step in his career.”
Reflecting on his journey, Nordhagen noted that his previous fifth-place finish at the Tour of Guangxi last October was a fitting end to that season. “But the level in the UAE Tour this week was higher, and the climbs were tougher and longer,” he emphasized, commending his team’s strong support throughout. With plans for another altitude training camp on the horizon, Nordhagen concluded, “This is a great step in my development. With a good winter training block in Spain and this week under my belt, I hope to take the next step.”
As the cycling world watches with interest, Nordhagen’s progress sets a promising tone for the upcoming season.
