Wout van Aert Prepares for Spring Classics at Training Camp Following Strong Finish in Koksijde Cross Race

Following his third-place finish in Koksijde, Wout van Aert is shifting his focus to the next phase of his training as he prepares for the upcoming spring classics. Reflecting on his performance, he acknowledged the challenging start but expressed satisfaction with his overall experience amidst the enthusiastic crowds. “I deliberately didn’t try to follow Mathieu. At the start, I shot out of my click pedal, so I had to sprint hard to get into the peloton,” shared Van Aert. Despite his intense pursuit, he remarked, “I’ve had better legs this season. It was nice to ride these races. Every time, I enjoyed the large crowds.”

Van Aert is now directing his attention to the team’s training camp in Spain before concluding his cross season with the World Cup race in Benidorm. Emphasizing a shift in his training approach, he explained, “Until I started my cross programme, I did the basics with little intensity. I have been doing that intensity in the races lately, so now it is time to go back to the basics.” Expressing confidence in this new strategy, he added, “We will only go back to intensity training just before the spring classics. It is a different approach from previous seasons, but I am confident. My main goals are for the spring classics.”

As Van Aert heads to the training camp, he is gearing up for the upcoming challenges with a positive mindset and a focus on his main objectives in the spring classics. This transition in training marks a strategic shift as he aims to optimize his performance for the upcoming races on the World Tour.
