Wout van Aert Makes Strategic Changes for Upcoming Cyclocross Season
Wout van Aert, the Belgian cycling sensation, is preparing for the upcoming cyclocross season with a revised strategy to better focus on his performance. Van Aert, who recently turned 29, has made a deliberate decision to streamline his racing schedule. “It’s a conscious decision to do a shorter programme,” he explains. The talented rider mentioned how he struggled mentally with the transition from cyclocross to spring classics last year, prompting him to opt for a more selective approach this season.
“It will definitely be difficult to reach a high level,” Van Aert acknowledges, recognizing the challenges associated with his modified racing plan. Despite this, he is determined to prove himself in the limited races he will participate in. Van Aert expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming races, emphasizing the unique appeal of the cyclocross events and the opportunity to connect with fans. “It’s great to see the fans again. These races are always special for me,” he added.
His focus seems to be on the Christmas period, with a busy lineup of races in Mol, Antwerp, Asper-Gavere, and Heusden-Zolder. However, Van Aert has expressed reservations about his participation in Zonhoven and Benidorm, citing potential conflicts with his team’s training camp and concerns about managing fatigue before and after the camp. These factors will influence his final decision on whether to participate in these events.
Despite the challenges and uncertainties, Van Aert’s fans are eagerly anticipating his performance in the upcoming cyclocross season, with the rider’s strategic changes adding an intriguing dimension to his journey.
