Wout van Aert Claims Victory in 100th Edition of Coppa Bernocchi
After teaming up with his Jumbo-Visma teammates to control the race, Wout van Aert emerged victorious in the prestigious Coppa Bernocchi. The first edition of the one-day classic took place in 1913 and since then, an Italian cyclist has stood on the top step of the podium 89 times. However, van Aert’s sprint secured him the win, preventing an Italian victory for the 90th time in the history of the race.
“The feeling of winning is wonderful,” expressed van Aert. “We took the initiative right from the start. My teammates did a great job, so I had to make sure I would finish off the team’s good work. I started my sprint early and sprinted to the line. In the end, I was the strongest.”
This victory holds special significance for van Aert as he dedicated it to those who have supported and believed in him.
