Vos secures green jersey with second place in challenging sixth Tour de France Femmes stage
Team Visma | Lease a Bike missed the first break of the day, which clearly did not sit well with the team. They reeled in the initial breakaway and then joined the next one with Vos and Van Empel, who launched an attack for the second day in a row.
During the stage, Vos secured valuable points for the green jersey by winning an intermediate sprint. The breakaway group’s lead never extended much beyond two minutes. As they approached the summit of the final climb, the Dutch duo lost contact with the breakaway. Vos was caught by the peloton, dropped, but fought her way back on sheer determination. In the final stretch, Vos sprinted to second place, earning a significant number of points for the green jersey. On Saturday, Vos will start in the points jersey, leading compatriot Charlotte Kool by 25 points.
“It was a tough fight today,” Vos admitted after the stage. “It was an extremely challenging day. I put a lot of energy into staying in the break. It’s a shame Cédrine had already opened up a big gap; otherwise, I might have sprinted for the win. Unfortunately, that was beyond my control. After the final climb, I was relieved to reconnect with the peloton. I think I achieved the best possible result today. I really want to bring the green jersey to the finish of the Tour de France Femmes, but first, I need to recover from this grueling effort.”

Sports director Jan Boven was pleased with the day’s outcome. “We aimed to close the gap in the points classification with Marianne today, but we didn’t expect to be in green already. The situation on the road played out well for us, thanks in part to the hard work of the team. Fem sacrificed herself for Marianne, allowing her to collect crucial points at the intermediate sprint and the finish. Riejanne Markus had a tougher day. It quickly became clear what we had feared. Riejanne currently isn’t strong enough to compete with the overall classification contenders. She eased off today to conserve energy for the coming days. We’ll see what’s possible for her then. Nonetheless, we look back on a successful day, considering the performances of Marianne, Fem, and the rest of the team.”
