Vlad Van Mechelen Secures Third Place at Windy Ster van Zwolle Race
Development Team dsm-firmenich PostNL had a successful outing at the Ster van Zwolle, facing challenging conditions due to strong winds. Vlad Van Mechelen emerged as the standout performer for the team, securing a commendable third-place finish in a race characterized by attrition.
According to the report, the team displayed excellent teamwork and strategic positioning throughout the race. Van Mechelen’s resilience and tactical awareness played a crucial role in his podium finish, as the race evolved into a battle of endurance and skill amidst the demanding conditions.
Van Mechelen reflected on the intense nature of the race, stating, “Zwolle is always super nervous and hectic. We constantly had to be ready for echelons. The boys were there when it happened so at one point we were with four in the first group. Unfortunately Frank crashed out but the teamwork was top-notch today. As we went deeper into the final the group kept getting smaller due to the high pace on the crosswind sections. In the final group I was outnumbered by TDT and one of their riders went solo. The cooperation in the chase group was not good so we knew I had to shift my focus on getting a podium spot in the sprint. I’m really glad it worked out with third.”
Team coach Joey van Rhee also commended the team’s performance, highlighting their motivation and resilience in the face of the challenging conditions. Van Rhee stated, “I think we can be proud of our teamwork and how we raced today in a hectic race, especially with it being the first time racing together as a group. I’m proud of the guys and this is a good starting point ahead of the next races.”
The Ster van Zwolle race served as a successful debut on home soil for Development Team dsm-firmenich PostNL, showcasing their potential and determination in the competitive cycling scene.
