Vingegaard, Roglic and Kuss look ahead to Vuelta a España

Vingegaard, Roglic, and Kuss Prepare for Vuelta a España

After their impressive victories at the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France, Team Jumbo-Visma is setting their sights on the Vuelta a España, the final grand tour of the year. The Dutch outfit is hungry to become the first team to win all three major tours in one season and believes that they have the necessary teamwork to achieve this goal.

Jonas Vingegaard, who secured his first Grand Tour podium finish at the Tour de France, acknowledges the importance of working together as a team. “We need each other to achieve our ultimate goal,” he says. The team recently explored the course for the Vuelta’s opening team time trial in Barcelona and Vingegaard is optimistic about their chances. “It’s a very technical course, but we have the riders for this kind of work. I’m looking forward to opening with a team time trial and hopefully getting a good result immediately.”

The Vuelta a España is known for its challenging mountain stages, and Primoz Roglic, the winner of the 2020 edition, expects intense racing right from the start. “They usually contain intense racing from the start. In this tour, riders don’t often wait until the last week to attack, which makes it more interesting,” Roglic says. Vingegaard adds, “It’s a tough edition with stages that should suit us. We will have to see how my form is in the first week. It’s always hard to predict how your legs will feel after rest.”

Vingegaard and Roglic will be starting as co-leaders for Team Jumbo-Visma, and they have proven their ability to work together effectively in previous stage races. “It has worked well with overall victories in the Tour of Spain and the Critérium du Dauphiné. We proved there that we have a good working relationship. We are both looking forward to it,” Vingegaard says. Roglic adds, “We have a strong selection, and it is too early to say who will be the team’s absolute leader. The goal is to have a Jumbo-Visma rider on the podium in Madrid.”

One key rider supporting Vingegaard and Roglic will be Sepp Kuss, who has recovered well from his crash at the Tour de France. Kuss will be facing his third grand tour of the season and acknowledges the physical challenge that comes with it. “To do three grand tours in one season is unique and special, but I’m certainly not going to do it every year. It will be a physical challenge, but with my experience at the grand tours, I know when my body needs a rest. I’m ready, and I’m looking forward to helping Jonas and Primoz.”

The Vuelta a España promises to be a thrilling race, with Team Jumbo-Visma aiming for yet another podium finish. The team’s strong selection of riders, including Vingegaard, Roglic, and Kuss, gives them confidence in their ability to compete at the highest level. As they head into the final grand tour of the year, all eyes will be on Team Jumbo-Visma to see if they can make history and win all three major tours in one season.
