Vingegaard reclaims red jersey in tenth Vuelta stage
# Vingegaard Regains Red Jersey in Thrilling Tenth Stage of Vuelta
In the aftermath of the first rest day, the peloton was set to tackle a grueling 175-kilometer stage culminating in a challenging mountain finish at Larra Belagua. The early part of the race unfolded on relatively flat terrain, but the final kilometers promised to test the riders with two categorized climbs.
At the two-hour mark, participants were averaging nearly fifty kilometers per hour, but it wasn’t until approximately seventy kilometers from the finish that a significant breakaway emerged. A group of 25 riders launched their attack as they approached the Alto de Las Coronas, the first climb of the day, while Team Visma | Lease a Bike kept a watchful eye on the peloton.
As the race accelerated toward the final climb to Larra Belagua, the pace within the peloton intensified. Race leader Torstein Træen, along with others, could not keep pace and was soon dropped. A compact group, featuring Jonas Vingegaard and Matteo Jorgenson, then set out to chase the breakaway riders. Maintaining his lead, Jay Vine managed to fend off the chasing favorites.
With his remarkable performance, Vingegaard emerged victorious and reclaimed the top position in the overall standings, leading by a margin of 26 seconds over second-placed Træen. “I’m very happy to wear the red jersey again,” Vingegaard said after the intense stage. “Being in the lead of the general classification always feels great. During the race, I wasn’t really thinking about the situation in the overall standings, but I was mostly focused on the high pace in the group of favorites. Riders like Almeida were pushing hard, but I felt strong again. Tomorrow I’ll start in red again. It would be great if I could keep the jersey until the final stage in Madrid.”
