Vingegaard Dedicates Emotional Victory in Vuelta to Friend Nathan Van Hooydonck
Vingegaard’s Winning Moment Amidst Personal Tragedy
Nathan Van Hooydonck, a friend of Jonas Vingegaard, was involved in a traffic accident in Belgium, causing concern for the rider. Despite this emotional setback, Vingegaard managed to secure his second victory in the Vuelta, surpassing his teammate Primoz Roglic in the overall standings.
Vingegaard expressed his dedication to his friend, saying, “I want to dedicate this victory to my best friend, Nathan. We heard the news this morning right before the start. It’s not easy to focus on cycling on days like these. I quickly knew that I wanted to win for Nathan. I am very happy with this victory, but my thoughts are currently with him. I hope Nathan will recover soon. He always puts others first. We have built such a strong bond over the years we have spent together. He is always there for me. Hopefully, everything will be alright with Nathan and his wife soon.”
Kuss Remains Focused on Team Effort
Klassementsleider Sepp Kuss shared his insights on the stage, stating, “Jonas attacked at a very opportune moment. Few riders were able to even attempt to counter his attack. Primoz and I decided to neutralize any potential counterattacks from the competition in the favorites group. We all have the freedom to race aggressively. The main goal remains for the team to stand with the red jersey in Madrid next Sunday. Tomorrow’s stage will be less tactical. The climb to the top of the Angliru is tough, and that is where the legs will speak. Hopefully, mine will be in good form again.”
Jumbo-Visma’s Continued Success in Vuelta
With Jonas Vingegaard’s victory in the current edition of the Vuelta, Jumbo-Visma has achieved their fourth triumph in this Spanish Grand Tour. This victory brings their total number of wins for the season to an impressive sixty.
