Vigié sprints to an impressive fourth place in the first stage of Vuelta a Burgos
# Margaux Vigié Shines with Fourth Place Finish in Vuelta a Burgos Stage One
The eleventh edition of the Vuelta a Burgos kicked off with an engaging flat 127-kilometre stage through Burgos, setting the stage for exciting competition. Early in the race, three riders broke away, establishing a solid lead. Despite Katharina Sadnik’s valiant attempt to bridge the gap for Team Visma | Lease a Bike, the breakaway was eventually reeled in with less than twenty kilometers to go.
As the peloton surged forward, sprint trains began to coalesce, with Vigié strategically following the wheel of Dutch champion Wiebes. While Wiebes showcased her strength to claim victory, Vigié’s performance stood out, and she managed to secure an impressive fourth place.
Sports director Jan Boven celebrated Vigié’s result, stating, “This is a very promising start. We had hoped that Margaux would be able to compete for the top spots, and she certainly succeeded in that. If you can finish fourth amongst the world’s best sprinters, you’re simply doing very well.”
Looking ahead, Boven expressed optimism for the next stage, indicating it would provide Vigié another opportunity to shine: “Tomorrow will be broadly similar to today. That means Katharina and Margaux can have another go. In the days that follow, it will get a bit tougher and it will be up to our climbers Maud and Rosita to aim for a good overall classification.”
