Tom Van Asbroeck Secures Podium Spot at Cholet Agglo Tour, Capping off Strong Weekend in France
Belgian cyclist, Tom Van Asbroeck, wrapped up a successful weekend of racing in France by clinching third place at the Cholet Agglo Tour. His podium finish came hot on the heels of a second-place result at the Classic Loire Atlantique the day before.
Reflecting on his performance, Van Asbroeck commented, “I’m happy with the weekend, especially with the young team that we have here. But, of course, I’m a little disappointed that I did not win, but I think today this was the best result possible. I felt strong yesterday, and I felt strong today.”
The race was won by Paul Lapeira, who executed a well-timed solo attack to secure back-to-back victories. Despite his team’s efforts to control the race and close down breakaways, Van Asbroeck was unable to catch Lapeira and narrowly missed out on second place in the bunch sprint.
Van Asbroeck reflected on the race, acknowledging the efforts of his teammates, stating, “My teammates did the best they could do to close the gaps. When the winner attacked, I was absolutely at my limit – I needed five seconds to recover and get my strength back. It was just too much for me to follow him.”
With the Volta Limburg Classic in the Netherlands up next for the Academy team, Van Asbroeck and his teammates will look to carry their momentum into the upcoming race on Saturday, 30 March.
