Veenhoven sprints to second place in Scheldeprijs
# Veenhoven Shines with Second Place at Scheldeprijs
In a thrilling finish at the sixth edition of the Scheldeprijs, Nienke Veenhoven from Team Visma | Lease a Bike secured a commendable second place, showcasing her strength in the women’s cycling classic. After the race, Veenhoven expressed her satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “I’m happy with this second place. The team did a brilliant job by taking control in the final lap and getting me into a comfortable position heading into the last kilometre. In the sprint, I chose to follow Charlotte’s wheel, and in hindsight, that was the right choice.”
The race culminated in a tightly contested bunch sprint, a scenario that has become a hallmark of the Scheldeprijs. The Visma team executed their strategy effectively, maintaining control during the critical final stages and ensuring Veenhoven was well-positioned for the sprint finish. While she made a strong effort in the closing meters, she could not quite outpace the winner, Charlotte Kool of Fenix-Premier Tech.
Team sports director Jos van Emden reflected on the team’s performance with optimism, noting, “We can certainly be pleased with second place. We’ve been working for a while to get the team on the same page for a sprint. It often didn’t work out, but it did this time. The train stayed together, everyone was committed to their task and Nienke was able to sprint. Those are the three things that need to go right in a race. The fact that it’s worked out now makes me very happy. Compliments to the whole team.”
