Van Wilder Takes Fourth Place in Luxembourg Stage Race
Ilan Van Wilder finished strong on the final day of the race in Luxembourg, securing a solid fourth place on the general classification. Van Wilder made a decisive move just before the last intermediate sprint, earning one bonus second that helped him climb up the standings.
The day was dominated by Soudal Quick-Step, with Andrea Bagioli and Julian Alaphilippe joining the breakaway. Bagioli put in an impressive ride, leading the race until 25 kilometers to go and earning the prize for the most combative rider.
After the catch was made, Van Wilder made a move at the intermediate sprint, earning the second that elevated him in the standings. Mauri Vansevenant also had a strong performance, riding away with a group that held off the chasing peloton and finishing fifth on the uphill finish.
“I’m a bit sad because I think I was capable of getting more today, at least a top three. But I have a nice feeling ahead of the Italian races, which I will do next,” said Mauri Vansevenant.
Despite hitting the ground a few kilometers from the finish line, Van Wilder quickly remounted with the help of his teammates and finished with the peloton.
“I’m satisfied with my solid general classification here. It’s another good result that gives me a lot of confidence,” said Ilan Van Wilder, who has achieved several top-ten finishes this season including a third place in Volta ao Algarve, a fourth place at the Tour de Pologne, and an impressive overall win at the Deutschland Tour.
