Van Empel Secures Victory at Heusden-Zolder
Fem van Empel emerged triumphant at the former F1 circuit in Heusden-Zolder, a fast track for the riders. The 21-year-old made an energetic start, opening up a gap on her rivals. Despite a mid-race crash, she fought back and engaged in a neck-and-neck race for the win, ultimately proving her strength on the track.
Van Empel recounted the crash, stating, “There are a lot of small potholes on the descent. My front wheel went into one of them, and I crashed,” noting her determination to recover from the setback, “Luckily, I had a target before me, but I still had to get back into the rhythm.”
In a thrilling final lap, Van Empel and her competitor engaged in a compelling duel, with the former ultimately emerging victorious in a sprint finish. Reflecting on the battle, Van Empel expressed her ambitions for the day, saying, “I wanted to do well today, and I think Alvarado and I had a great battle.”
