Van Empel Dominates Koppenbergcross to Claim Victory

Dutch cyclist Fem van Empel emerged victorious at the Koppenbergcross, taking an early lead and leaving her rivals behind. After an hour of challenging racing, Van Empel crossed the finishing line with an impressive lead over runner-up Denise Betsema.

Reflecting on her win, Van Empel described the race as one of the toughest she has ever faced. “You can’t imagine putting so much energy into it because you’re hardly moving forward. The conditions were treacherous,” she shared.

Known as one of the toughest classics on the cyclocross calendar, the Koppenbergcross is Van Empel’s favorite race. “At the beginning of the season, I said I’d definitely ride it because I think it’s a very nice course. The conditions today made it extra special,” she explained.

With her victory at the Koppenbergcross, Van Empel sees it as a good test for the upcoming European cyclocross championships. “The most important thing now is to recover well and then I will prepare for the next race as usual,” she concluded.
